Everyone is making their new year’s resolutions. It’s a common occurrence in January for people not to eat-out much or to cut back on drinking alcohol. This can be due to strict budgeting in January after all the luxury of the festive season, or trying to finally shed those few pounds you have put on over the Christmas period.
It’s also true that people often find the January one of the
most stressful months of the year.
It is our belief however that you can have the best of both worlds. You can
still have a nice evening or lunch whilst not having to sacrifice all your hard
work. In this blog we are hoping to give you some great tips or tricks that
will save you some cash while still allowing you to have a relaxing evening
with friends or that meal out to save on your washing up.
Now the pub isn’t the first place you probably think of when looking to lose weight. However, it’s a great healthy swap to turn your trip out on Sunday to a healthy walk for you and friends. Take in some fresh air and stop off for a light bite to eat or non-alcoholic drink along the way.
This can also be a great way to incentivise yourself to making healthy swaps. This allows you feel better about having that bite to eat when you know you still have the walk back to start burning it all off. Here on the coast also there are great walks and sites for you to take in the local area.
One of the reasons we go to the local pub or restaurant is to catch up with friends and generally let off steam and relax. In January we can often forget this as people are so focused on being healthy they end up socializing a lot less. This can cause an increase in stress and make those new year resolutions harder to keep.
When you finally bite the bullet and go out to meet friends or grab a bite to eat. It doesn’t mean you have to order half the menu and get a dessert to go. Choose healthier options or pick a grazing board which can be shared between two or more people. This allows you to eat slower and be social while doing so.
Some simple swaps go a long way. Soda water is a hardly noticeable substitute for lemonade saving you calories, or ask your local barman what non-alcoholic options they have.
If all the above fail and you give up 2 weeks in, don’t worry you can always join others in the same boat over a pint and a piece of cheesecake here at Gielty’s. Here we hold no judgements.
Wishing you all the best in 2019.
